The Hobsonville Point School Aquabot Team is off to Atlanta, USA to compete in the USA National Sea Perch Competition. After winning the NZ event last year the team is frantically fundraising to enable them to compete in the USA competition in May 2017.
An Aquabot is a remotely operated underwater vehicle. Run by the Ministry of Inspiration (MOI) in Nelson AquaBots is a fun, hands-on educational programme integrating Science, Technology, Design and Engineering.
The team are busily building a new Aquabot to compete in the competition as well working on the challenges they will have to complete in Atlanta.
The team needs to raise over $20,000 to get to Atlanta. They are raising money at the Hobsonville Point market every Sunday until the beginning of April selling baked goodies and will also have the Aquabot there which you can have a go a driving for a gold coin donation.
A major fundraiser will be the quiz night that they are organising at the Hobsonville Point Primary School on April 7. Tickets are $20 and are available by contacting Erica on 021659866 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow the team on Facebook – search @pointphd.
