In 2014, under the guidance of Alison Milne and Knitted Graffiti, a group of women from Hobsonville Point and surrounding neighbourhoods created the ‘Tree Cosy’ on the pohutukawa tree on Hobsonville Point Road, near the Sunderland Ave intersection. It has been much loved by residents and visitors, and become a local landmark. The knitting was expected to stand up to the elements for about two years, and it has done just that. Earlier this month, Alison and volunteers from Hobsonville Point removed the tired and sun bleached knitting.
The Hobsonville Land Company have said that they are happy to commission a new outfit for the tree if there was interest in the community to get involved in creating a new one. A number of people have said that they are keen to be involved, so plans for a new outfit are underway. Knitting is likely to commence in February next year, and installation nearer the end of the year. All materials are supplied to those participating.
