Watering will be on our minds over the next few months, especially if the wind continues to dry everything out. Keep a check on your most vulnerable plants that need it the most. Many Herbs are coming into flower and this is good news for the bees. Borage is an especially good one to grow for them. Keep up with your mulching and cover your berries with bird netting. Enjoy the summer days in the garden. Lemons are plentiful at the moment so try these recipes:
Old fashion Lemonade
2 cups sugar 1 cup water 1 cup lemon juice
Combine the sugar and water in a saucepan and bring to the boil while stirring over a gentle heat. Be patient, you don’t want to rush this part of the process. Boil gently for five minutes without stirring. When cool add the lemon juice. Strain and store in a glass bottle in the fridge. To use add 2 tbsp lemonade syrup to a glass of water with ice.
Red wine lemonade
Makeup 2 cups of lemonade (4 tbsp syrup to 2 cups water) then mix with 2 cups of red wine, such as claret or merlot. Chill in the fridge and to serve pour into wine glasses over ice. (The green goddess-Wendyl Nissen)
