– Interview with Roland Moss
DH: When did you start selling Over the Moon cheese and what made you decide to venture in the cheese world and start your business Cheese and Crackers NZ?
RM: I started selling cheese made by Over the Moon Dairy in 2007. Tamara and I were on our way back from Martinborough Fair, and we stopped at a café called ‘The Two Mad Cows’ in Putaruru and noticed Over the Moon Dairy across the road, and I thought ‘wouldn’t cheese be a nice product to sell at markets’? We went into the Deli at Over the Moon Dairy, and we spoke to Sue Arthur, who happened to be the owner, cheese maker and director of The NZ Cheese school.
DH: What’s your favourite cheese, your best seller and do you have any tips for pairing wine and cheese, crackers, etc…?
RM: My favourite cheese is Double Delight. This cheese is a Brie, made with a blend of cows and goats milk. Wine match- Merlot and sweet fruity white wines but there are no set rules when it comes to what to drink with cheese, some of the new light craft beers go very nicely with cheese, so think outside the square and don’t be a snob.
The most popular selling cheeses are OMG Triple Cream Brie. It has a smooth and buttery texture and flavour. Our Black Truffle Brie cheeses taste fabulous on their own and equally well on crackers with fruit chutney or jelly.
DH: How long have you been part of the Hobsonville Point Farmers Market and what is your favorite thing about the community and being a stallholder?
RM: I became a stallholder at Hobsonville Point Farmers Market two years ago after being approached by management. I enjoy the friendly atmosphere of the market and the comradery of the stall holders.
