Salty River Farm is a small farm beside the Whanaki River – a tidal arm of the Kaipara Harbour, farming goats for meat, and genuine free range hens for eggs.
Being a small farm, we can give our animals the attention they deserve. We are committed to producing happy, naturally raised animals who free-range our farm. Our goat bucks are a New Zealand meat breed called Kikonui, developed to have good parasite resistance and strong feet in our (often) damp conditions.
Salty River Farm’s goat meat is from animals under 18 months old. This ensures the meat is lean and mild in flavour, making it perfect to be cooked slowly in a Tagine, curry or stew.
Along with goat meat and preservative/gluten free sausages, we also sell beef and lamb sourced locally from breeders that have the same care and attention as we do in raising our animals. Brahman, Galloway, and Highland beef breeds are currently being used, along with Southdown Lamb.
We age the beef, so the meat we bring to market is full of flavour. We use a small boutique abattoir just one hour away – ensuring traceability and less stress to the animals.
Salty River Farm is at the Hobsonville Point Farmers Market every weekend. Follow our story on Facebook.
