‘Children Helping Children’
Event Date: 15 May 2016
Registration opens at 8.30am Venue: Hobsonville Point Primary School
The Hobsonville Point Runway Challenge has been run successfully for the last 5 years by Total Sport and The Henderson Lions Club but each year is always a bit different due to the changing face of Hobsonville Point.
The Henderson-West Auckland Lions Club have taken over the event and they are keen for it to be a continuing community event for the whole family. The Henderson-West Auckland Lions Club have been organising events of this kind for over 54 years and the event is run entirely by volunteer labour. This means that any profits from the event can be given back to children and families in the community.
Entrants, either team or individual, can take part in either a 3K, 5K or 10K cross country run or walk. Obstacles will be spread throughout the course to make in more interesting and lots of fun. If you decide to do the 10k, you get to have a go at all the obstacles twice. Every entrant gets a special medal and a goody bag at the conclusion of the race.
Over 400 schools and 100 sports clubs have been invited to submit a team of 10 runners in the same event. For every team that enters, they go into the draw to win $500. The teams also get an opportunity to submit an application for funding for needy families in their community.
We have sponsorship opportunities too. If we get enough sponsorship to run the event, then we can give all the entry fees back to the community. We have challenged building companies and trades, architects and sports groups to create and build an obstacle that will challenge competitors. You get to name your obstacle and to have a stall at the event to promote your product. If you cannot build an obstacle but would like to be involved, you can donate vouchers or product to go in the over 1000 goody bags that we are making up for all entrants. Stall sites and entertainment will be on from 9.00am.
The first race starts at 10.00am this year making it a more family friendly event. Prizegiving and the draw for the $500 takes place at 12.30pm. There are still sites and entertainment slots available if you have a special product or group that you would like to showcase to the community. The Farmers market will be open down on the Landing. Make a day of it and come to Hobsonville Point for a day of family fun.
